March Music Madness – Our Champion

What an incredibly exciting four weeks. I have had a blast keeping up with this bracket and learned quite a bit about yall’s musical tastes. What started as a fun dinner time discussion with Mrs. Clumsy Optimist turned into a great fun spirited undertaking. I won’t waste anymore of your time, let’s get down to our Champ.

Starting in the Sweet 16, no act had won by more than 3 votes. Even the Final Four was much closer than I anticipated. How did our Championship round fare? Remember all “scores” are in percentage. Continue reading “March Music Madness – Our Champion”

March Music Madness – Championship Round

Here we are. Over the past four weeks we have whittled the best 68 musical acts I could think of down to the final two. I was quite pleased with the Final Four. All four teams had to fight to the end with no one winning my more than 3 votes. No act has won by more than 3 votes since the Sweet 16 – these three rounds have been incredibly exciting! Let’s see how the winners of each genre bracket fared in the Final Four and who will face off in the Championship! Continue reading “March Music Madness – Championship Round”

March Music Madness – Elite 8

We’ve narrowed it down to the last match-up in each region! Time to get down to the winners of each genre. Guys, there were some huge upsets in the Sweet 16. Yall have surprised me at every level but as the match-ups have gotten better, the votes have been harder and harder to predict. Let’s get right to it. Remember all “scores” are in percentage.

March Music Madness – Round of 64

I thought we could have a bit of fun with the NCAA basketball tournament upon us once again. The original idea was to take 4 of the largest musical genres and narrow it down to the 16 best bands or artists in that genre. Super easy right?

Wrong. This was an impossible task. The wife and I spent a good portion of Tuesday evening picking artists and seeding them to the best of our abilities. Some of our favorites didn’t even make the final cut. Many of our favorites are going up against each other or face certain demise in the first round. We tried to keep the personal biases as little as possible, but of course we made some decisions based on our personal likes and dislikes. In the future, remind me to be more specific in theme. A Little Health Update

Over the past 5 years I’ve had some bouts with dizzy spells. The first time I passed out was at JC Penny. It was hot (August in Houston has a way of being that way) and I was crouched down looking for jeans. When I stood up and walked towards the fitting room everything started going black. I ended up with tunnel vision, sweating my butt off in the dressing room. I felt sick and looked as white as a ghost. I figured I just stood up too quickly.

Fast forward 5 years and about 50 different doctor’s appointments. There were spinning sensations that occurred pretty frequently but these seemed different. Over this time-frame, I had 3 more episodes of this “blacking out” for lack of a better term. Once while I was walking the dog, once while I was working. Continue reading “A Little Health Update”

Let’s Get Less Fat (an update)

The lose weight train left the station about a week ago. At least I started in earnest about a week ago. I really started to try and lose a few pounds, like most of the rest of America, around the New Year. I’m going to try and give a quick update here once a week.

There is much debate about how long it takes to create a habit. Some reports say 8 days while others have said 21 or even 66 days. It’s more important to focus on keeping up some momentum so if I try to keep up with it here weekly maybe that will help keep up the good habits. Here is how the first real week has gone.
