March Madness: Jingles – Round of 64

Well in the past year I’ve written one post on this site. Which is exactly one more than I wrote last year. Progress! We’re back again to see what our favorite something is and frankly this year may be some of our most difficult choices yet.

As it is, we are back for our 8th year doing these brackets. Time flies, y’all! Our 7th bracket found our favorite Disney song with Aladdin‘s “Friend Like Me” coming out victorious by one vote! “Friend Like Me” joins our group of champions with 6th year Champ – our favorite holiday movie Elf. 5th year Champion of our favorite fast-food joint was one of our closer finals matchups as Whataburger was crowned. Our fourth-year winner of favorite TV theme song was won in a rout by The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This joins our third-year winner for favorite breakfast food: Breakfast Tacos and Burritos. Our second-year bracket crowned The Sandlot as our champions of the Best Sports Movie Bracket. Our first champion was in the music bracket where The Beatles reigned victorious. It’s my pleasure to announce our topic this year: Jingles.

Hurricane Harvey Showed Who We Really Are

Moments of trauma will always reveal what you value most. Growing up on the Gulf Coast of Texas, the time period between June and November is filled with nervous eyes watching the Gulf. Hurricane season is just 5 – 6 months of underlying anxiety. At any time, a storm can come up and take away everything you have worked for. Over my 39 years, I have evacuated myself or my family from no less than 7 or 8 hurricanes.

2017 was the first hurricane season we had gone through after buying our first home. No lie – watching a monster of a hurricane coming and sitting on top of your city is much more stressful when you own the house. We were lumped in with the other 70 – 80% of homeowners at the time estimated to not have flood insurance in Houston. It’s stupid, I know, but we gambled due to cleaning out our savings in the buying process, not being in a flood plain, and the house not flooding during the 2015 Memorial Day or the 2016 Tax Day floods

March Madness: Disney Songs – Our Champion

This is our first tournament in a while that wasn’t conducted under lockdown conditions. While we are still out here battling COVID, it’s been nice to have a bit of a goofy respite from thinking about reality. I really do look forward to this every single year and hope you do too. Enough with the my blabbering, let’s get to the good stuff!

Our Championship Round came down to a 3 seed and a 5 seed that very well could have been top 2 seeds if there wasn’t so many other great Disney songs. I think most of us probably could have seen either of these two winning the whole thing at the beginning of our tournament. It was quite the journey for our two finalists but they persevered to make it to the finale. Time to find out how the Championship Round fared. Remember all “scores” are in percentages.

March Madness: Disney Songs – Championship

Hey guys, we made it! We’re already through this great tournament. This has been a ton of fun and honestly one of the most bonkers brackets we’ve ever done. I can’t remember any other bracket we’ve done with so many upsets and double digit seeds staying in so long.

Just like every year, I like to make picks like I’m in an office pool before March Madness. For the most part the Final 4 was not a huge surprise even though it ended with a 3, 4, 5, and 7 seed making it in. Honestly, I think you could have had most of these as a 1-3 seeds based on your personal feelings. This was probably the hardest time I’ve had seeding the tournament. After this great run, let’s see how the winners of each region fared in the Final Four and who will face off in the Championship!

The Championship Round voting begins now and will end Wednesday April 6 at 5pm Central. Championship winner will be announced on Thursday. I can’t believe we are already almost through this year!

But first — Let’s get on to the results! Remember all “scores” are percentages from voting.

March Madness: Disney Songs – Final 4

Well, here we are. Together we have spent the last three weeks whittling down our four regions to one champion in each quarter. We have our Regional Champions and are ready to move on to the Final 4! The Elite 8 saw two close games (one of which could have gone either way the entire time) and two… well, not so close games. We enter the Final 4 with four teams that I could see winning the whole thing even if someone raked one of them a 7 seed. I regret nothing! But enough with my rambling…on to the scores!

The Final 4 voting begins now and voting will end Sunday April 3 at 5pm Central. Championship round begins on Monday. I can’t believe we are already almost through this year!

But first — Let’s get on to the results! Remember all “scores” are percentages from voting.

March Madness: Disney Songs – Elite 8

This bracket, more than any of our other yearly tournaments has completely baffled me at every turn. We have had a few Cinderella stories that have stayed in much longer than I thought and some real blue bloods fall much earlier than most of us expected. Our Sweet 16 seemed like it was set up to go through without much of a surprise but, my God y’all. There was one game that absolutely blew my mind. More on that in a bit.

The Regional Finals begin now and voting will end Wednesday, March 30 at 5pm Central. Our Final 4 and regional winners will be announced Thursday and the start of the ultimate battle of Disney supremacy begins. Good luck with making up your mind on some of these.

March Madness: Disney Songs – Sweet 16

Well, here we are. After an absolutely mad first two rounds we are already to our Sweet 16. The Round of 32 went by with a few massive upsets that I 100% did not see coming. We are all of the sudden down a couple of 1 seeds and a 2 seed. You guys had me completely and utterly gobsmacked with a couple of these picks, especially in the Donald and Goofy Region. Every year I have an idea of what I think the final two in each region will be (not always the 1 & 2 seed) but about half of my Elite 8 guesses are already gone. Y’all are ruthless!

The Regional Semifinals begins now and voting will end Sunday, March 27 at 5pm Central. Good luck with making up your mind on some of these.

March Madness: Disney Songs – Round of 32

Hoo boy. Y’all have definitely made some decisions in the opening round. A couple head scratchers for me for sure but I respect your wrong decisions. Lol. There were four or five games that came down to 1 or 2 votes in the last hour of voting and one match-up that came down to Mrs. Clumsy Optimist pulling in to fulfill her duty as official bracket game tie-breaker for the first time this year. (She doesn’t vote unless there is a tie).

The seeding this year, while again, completely and wholly biased as I went along seems to have been somewhat close to right. The Mickey Region saw 3 upsets, Minnie and Donald Regions almost went scratch, and the Goofy Region was…well…goofy. We saw our first 3 and 4 seeds go down and some Cinderella stories start to take shape.

The second round begins now and voting will end Wednesday, March 23 at 5pm Central. There are already a few damn near impossible choices to be made. Good luck!

March Madness: Disney Songs – Round of 64

I can’t believe we have already been a year apart, but once again we get back together to battle it out and figure out what our favorite something is. I’m in the same boat as last year, so I’ll just plagiarize myself from last year’s opening post… Once again, it’s been almost a full year since I’ve written anything. Shocking. And I even had some decent ideas! I really need to work on my procrastination issues. Maybe later…

As it is, we are back for our 7th year doing these brackets. Our 6th year bracket found our favorite Holiday movie with Elf coming out victorious. Elf joins our group of champions with 5th year Champ of our favorite fast-food joint in one of our closer finals matchups as Whataburger was crowned. Our fourth-year winner of favorite TV theme song which was won in a rout by The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This joins our third-year winner for favorite breakfast food: Breakfast Tacos and Burritos. March Madness: Holiday Movies – Our Champion

So during our bracket tournament last year we were in the first real, scary part of Coronavirus lockdowns. I wanted to use this dumb bracket as a way to keep our minds busy and focused on something positive and comforting even if it truly is trivial in nature. This year we entered this tournament with hope of beating this thing finally with mass vaccinations happening as we speak. While we still are fighting this battle, it was nice to have something to distract me and I hope it was for all of you as well. Thank you again everyone for taking time to vote on these silly things. I really do look forward to this every single year and hope you do too. Enough with the my blabbering, let’s get to the good stuff!

Our Championship Round came down to a 1 seed and a 2 seed I think most had picked to win the whole thing. Like I said, these two movies were two of maybe four or five that I believed had a chance to win the whole thing. Time to find out how the Championship Round fared. Remember all “scores” are in percentages.
