March Madness: SNL Sketches– Elite 8

Welcome to the Elite 8.

And let me just say. Dudes, dudettes, and non-duderinos alike… we had a couple of shockers (to me, at least) this week. I looked at the final votes on the way to home Sunday night and truly had my jaw drop on one of these. This particular bracket, while incredibly difficult to choose, has moved along pretty much as I anticipated. And while I’m not super surprised to see the final 8 sketches we have ended up with here, we lost what I saw as a dark horse to win the whole thing and came unbelievable close to losing our first 1 seed, while only having one true runaway match in our Sweet 16.

So here we are. The Regional Finals begin now and voting will end Wednesday, April 2 at 5pm Central. This tournament always surprises me every year with how fast it flies by. We are at the best vs the best. Good luck making up your mind. I am fully at a loss on how to vote on all of these.

But first — Let’s get on to the results! Remember all “scores” are percentages from voting.

March Madness: SNL Sketches– Sweet 16

Before we get started, a little news. This post marks the 100th post for this here site. Thank you all so much for reading and sticking around. I know at least 75% of the posts are March Madness related, but I truly appreciate y’all! And hope to write some non-bracket related material at some point. Here’s to a hundred more!!

The second round of our tournament saw many more very close match-ups than the Round of 64. By the end of Wednesday voting we ended up with one tie, which was really nice after Mrs. Clumsy Optimist had to break 6 fricken’ ties in the first round. There were three matchups that were decided by one vote! We say goodbye to one of our 3 seeds and THREE of our 2 seeds. Wild week for the 2’s! And for the first time ever, zero of our 4 seeds made it to the Sweet 16.

The Regional Semifinal round begins now and voting will end Sunday, March 30 at 5pm Central. It’s hard to believe March is basically finished. Good luck with making up your mind on some of these. I’m still completely at a loss on how to vote on almost all of these match-ups and I honestly have been for the last two rounds. Probably not going to get any easier going forward.

But first — Let’s get on to the results! Remember all “scores” are percentages from voting.

March Madness: SNL Sketches– Round of 32

First off – thank you everyone for voting. It makes me so happy to do these every year and see so much action from y’all. We had some nail biters in the first round and way more ties and 1 vote victories in the first round than we have ever had before. With two hours left in voting on the Round of 64, we were staring at Mrs. Clumsy Optimist needing to cast her tie-breaking vote on 6 of our 32 matchups. And there were 4 more that were at one vote margins. Just absolutely wild stuff.

This was one of the more hotly contested first rounds we have ever had. While we did manage three 100-0 matchups, there were the afore mentioned 6 ties (we usually have less than 6 ties over the course of the entire tournament!) and 4 other matchups that ended up being decided by one vote! We lost two 4-seeds and one of our 5-seeded sketches. Only one region went completely scratch and we officially have three Cinderella stories ready to jump into action!

Just a note here: In the last few years, we have had some technical issues with the Round of 64 page loading because there were too many video previews trying to load at once so we had to make individual region voting pages. That wasn’t a problem beginning with the Round of 32 and I’m assuming it should all be solid this year as well, but if you do run into loading issues or whatnot please let me know so I can find a work-around!

The second round begins now and voting will end Wednesday, March 26 at 5pm Central. There are already a few damn near impossible choices to be made. Good luck!

But first — Let’s get on to the results! Remember all “scores” are percentages from voting.

March Madness: SNL Sketches

Well, let’s see. In the past year I’ve written one fairly fun Halloween Movie post for this site. That is exactly one (1) more posts than last year. In the business, we call that progress! Can’t be a prolific poster without the first post, right? Exactly! I knew we were on the same page!

And here – ladies, gentlemen, and all in-betweeners – we go again! Somehow, unbelievably, we are back for our 10th year doing these brackets. We made it! We’re in double digits, baby! In our 9th year I had just a fantastic time running this thing as we all picked our favorite Fictional Band’s Song, which came down to the wire with “Scotty Doesn’t Know” from Eurotrip getting the win by 3 votes! This beaut gets into the Clumsy Optimist Hall of Champions along side our 8th year favorite commercial jingle of all time with the Toys ‘R’ Us jingle “I Don’t Wanna Grow Up” which came out victorious, joining 7th year bracket which found our favorite Disney song with Aladdin‘s “Friend Like Me” winning their championship by one vote! These winners are welcomed to our group of champions with 6th year Champ – our favorite holiday movie Elf. 5th year Champion of our favorite fast-food joint was one of our closer finals matchups as Whataburger was crowned. Our fourth-year winner of favorite TV theme song was won in a rout by The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This joins our third-year winner for favorite breakfast food: Breakfast Tacos and Burritos. Our second-year bracket crowned The Sandlot as our champions of the Best Sports Movie Bracket. Our first champion was in the music bracket where The Beatles reigned victorious. It’s my pleasure to announce our topic this year in honor of Saturday Night Live’s 50th Anniversary: SNL Sketches.

March Madness: SNL Sketches– Round of 64 (Norm MacDonald Region Voting)

We found out in the past few years that some folks were unable to load the full Round of 64 post. Apparently the site doesn’t enjoy trying to load like 70+ YouTube links at once. I’ll post each region separately for y’all to vote on. Let me know if this doesn’t work but I think it should. Here is the Norm MacDonald Region.
