March Madness: Jingles – Round of 64

Well in the past year I’ve written one post on this site. Which is exactly one more than I wrote last year. Progress! We’re back again to see what our favorite something is and frankly this year may be some of our most difficult choices yet.

As it is, we are back for our 8th year doing these brackets. Time flies, y’all! Our 7th bracket found our favorite Disney song with Aladdin‘s “Friend Like Me” coming out victorious by one vote! “Friend Like Me” joins our group of champions with 6th year Champ – our favorite holiday movie Elf. 5th year Champion of our favorite fast-food joint was one of our closer finals matchups as Whataburger was crowned. Our fourth-year winner of favorite TV theme song was won in a rout by The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This joins our third-year winner for favorite breakfast food: Breakfast Tacos and Burritos. Our second-year bracket crowned The Sandlot as our champions of the Best Sports Movie Bracket. Our first champion was in the music bracket where The Beatles reigned victorious. It’s my pleasure to announce our topic this year: Jingles.

This year’s topic started with a discussion which began after one of the new Burger King ads came on during the NFL playoffs this season. That “At Beeeee Kaaaay, you can have it your way” is such an earworm. I don’t know who the singer is, only that it isn’t Sam Richardson like I thought it was.

But whoever you are, just know that “Whopper, Whopper, Double Whopper…” is in my head as I go to sleep some nights and I hate you for it. That lead us to discuss what was the most infection jingle of all time. There are so many great ones to choose from over the years. I can’t wait to find out which of these is our favorite.

I’d recommend clicking on every single one of these YouTube links. There is some serious nostalgia going on in these polls. I had completely forgotten about a few of these and was mentally transported back to my childhood home eating Fruity Pebbles and watching Saturday morning cartoons.

Like previous years, “scores” will be posted as the percentages from the polls.

I’ll set up polls in each round. To keep from completely swamping everyone’s Facebook and Twitter timelines, I’ll post the polls here and put a link up at the start of each new round on my Facebook and Twitter accounts. *Shameless plug* Give me a follow!

I’m going to be honest with y’all, this year’s bracket was quite possibly the most difficult one that I have had to seed and divide into four categories. We were able to come up with only 69 jingles to start with (nice!) so I only had to make 5 cuts. I’m sure there are going to be quite a few issues taken with how I ended up seeding some of these jingles, but I think where we landed was as good as it was going to get. If you are curious, here are the first 5 out (all of these were worthy of the bracket I think) but cuts have to be made.

Quick Gems – “Quick Gems by Conair”

Lowenbrau – “Let it be Lowenbrau”

Cellino & Barnes – “The Injury Attornies”

Twinkle Toes by Skechers – “Sketchers’ Twinkle Toes”

Miller – “If You’ve Got the Time, We’ve Got the Beer”

Typically we have tried to make our regions have something in common but I couldn’t figure out a perfect way to herd them all together so the regions are based on what is most typical of each grouping. This year we have Restaurants, Drinks, Companies, and Food. Seeding is almost entirely based on my biases so if you don’t like it, take it up with management. Oh, btw, I’m also management.

The first round of voting will start Thursday, March 16 and voting will close Sunday, March 19 at 5pm. The second round will begin on Monday, March 20. I will do my best to get the new write-ups and brackets posted as soon as possible but I make no promises. Especially early on, these posts are hella long. New rounds will begin on Mondays and Thursdays. I will set the polls to only allow one vote but in case I miss that checkbox on a couple of these, please only vote once per match-up. Well, there it is y’all! I have just a ton to say about these match-ups, but I don’t want to push the vote one way or another. This is probably the toughest Round of 64 that we have ever had. I already truly have no idea how to vote on a couple of these match-ups. I’m going out of town this weekend and this is typically by far the largest write up I have to do, but I will try my hardest to get the second round posted by next Monday. Let’s get to voting and see who gets into the Round of 32!
