March Madness: Fast Food – Championship

I can’t believe we are already at the finale of our 5th bracket. This has flown by. Probably because thanks to quarantine we have absolutely nothing better to do but write these posts and vote. So this year’s tournament stayed closer to chalk except for the wacky Miscellaneous Region.

After a mad scramble, I feel like we landed on a couple of really strong Final 4 match-ups. Let’s see how the winners of each region fared in the Final Four and who will face off in the Championship!

Semi-Final #1

(2) Whataburger vs (3) Jason’s Deli

Our 2 seed and Burger Region champion Whataburger would have been the 1 seed if I wasn’t putting the company with the most locations in the top spot. As it was, the Texas burger chain pretty much ran through their region with the closest match being an 85-15 drubbing of 5 Guys in the Sweet 16. 3 seed Jason’s Deli got a lot of hometown love on the way to winning the Sandwich region and aside from a 4 vote win in the Elite 8 against Schlotzsky’s, they were the definition of solid.

In the first Semi-Final, which I picked and was incredibly happy to see two Texas teams go up against each other, Whataburger brought their A-1 Thick and Hearty game and took down Jason’s Deli by a final of 75-25.

Semi-Final #2

(1) Chick-fil-A vs (6) Sonic

Chicken Region 1 seed Chick-fil-A was probably our #1 overall seed in my mind. The Chikin joint was always going to be a tough out and that more than played out as they flew through the competition, with their closest game being 77-23 against 2 seed Popeyes in the Elite 8. Which brings us to our Miscellaneous Region. Oh you sweet, dumb region. Sonic ended up taking the win on the back of a 3 vote win over 10 seed Dunkin’ Donuts in the Sweet 16 and a 1 vote victory over 4 seed Taco Bell in the Elite 8. For the record, I thought Dairy Queen or Taco Bell was taking this region. Sonic is our biggest Cinderella at a 6 seed.

The second Semi-Final, in pretty much an exact replay of the first game, Chick-fil-A punched their ticket to the ‘Ship with a 75-25 victory.

Okay, every year when I first make these brackets I make picks like I’m in an office pool before March Madness. Every time I ran through the regions I ended up with Whataburger and Chick-fil-A in the Championship. Just couldn’t see it breaking any other way. Now what happens here in the Final? Who even knows. This should be a great final match-up!

Voting for the Championship will open immediately and will close Sunday, April 19 at 5pm Central. Winner will be announced on Monday.

After the Final Four, our bracket now looks like this:

Fast Food Bracket Championship

Championship

(1) Chick-fil-A vs (2) Whataburger

Polls are open. Let’s get to voting and see who wins our Championship! Voting will close Sunday April 19 at 5pm. Our champion will be announced on Monday…uhhh…4/20. Frankly with a fast food bracket, it’s the only day that is could or should end on.
